BRAMPTON FLOWER CLUB SPRING NEWSLETTER

FORTHCOMING DEMO’S

This year we wanted to give you the opportunity to meet and watch demonstrators you may not have seen before so over the next few months we have differing personalities and styles on offer; I hope you will enjoy them. In June Julia Knights will be joining us from Great Yarmouth with 'Hello Broadway'. I am sure this will be an entertaining and fun evening as Julia has a great sense of humour and has been known to dress in costume. In July Glenda Bream will be coming from Sheffield with her delightful, more traditional demo'Inspired by Constance’. Glenda is a very experienced and delightful lady and co -designs the yearly display at Chatsworth with Jonathan Moseley. In September we have National Demonstrator, Lorena Dyer with a fabulous title , 'Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend' Lorena was chosen to do this title at a National Exhibition last year. A completely different personality joins us in October. Amy Jones runs her own floristry business in Cottenham and always has some fun stories to tell as well as some lovely pieces to show. Finally to end the year, I have managed to secure Michael Bowyer for our Open Meeting; Michael does not travel this way often so we are lucky, and don’t forget to invite your friends to join us.

COMMITTEE VACANCIES

Our committee is definitely down to the ‘bare bones’ now, with just 5 of us left, most having to wear two hats to cover all the posts.
Although we are well supported by our B-Team it is very difficult to move forward and do all the things we would like to with such a small committee.
Please do consider coming on Committee, it is good fun and the perfect way to make friends if you are a new member. This is your Club; don’t let it fall for want of committee members as so many others have over the last few years.
If you would like to have a chat about joining us please talk to or phone Helen or any of our committee for more information.

A LETTER FROM YOUR CHAIRMAN

Dear Friends
I have so enjoyed my first year as your Chairman, getting to know so many of you and joining together in our common goal to help our club survive and grow.
Remember that any help is always appreciated and no matter how big or small the job, your contribution during the year is very important and I thank you all in advance for the assistance you will be giving me over the coming months.
I am delighted to tell you the charity we have chosen to support this year is The MS Therapy Centre in Huntingdon and you’ll be hearing much more about our ideas for fund-raising in the next few months.
My health is improving and although on a new routine of treatment now, things are looking brighter. If I could thank each and every one of you for your kind words over the previous months. I feel very lucky to know so many of you and that's why the club is special as we all support each other in any way we can.
Let’s enjoy these lighter nights and look forward to many hours of flowers and gardening to come. With my Best Wishes to all at Brampton Flower Club, Members and Guests
Helen

TREASURERS REPORT

We are now at the half year point in terms of Flower club accounts and I am pleased to tell you that, over the year so far we are in profit. (Only to the tune of £186) but we are moving in the right direction.
We have 79 members and are looking for some more. So if you know anyone who would enjoy an evening out, watching talented flower arrangers with coffee and biscuits please bring them along.
Lorna

HINCHINGBROOKE HOUSE

As you are all aware our club is doing the flowers for the 450th Anniversary of Hinchingbrooke House – the subject for our arrangers is ‘Education from 1565 – 2015’ and we hope you will come along and view the flowers which will be situated in the Assembly Room.
Please see our website for further information

WORKSHOPS

We have two remaining workshops planned for this year so here are two more dates for your diaries.
The Summer Workshop will be on Sat morning 18th July in the Memorial Hall, Thrapston Road, Brampton where we will be demonstrating a choice of two Pedestal designs; one a traditional style, ideal for those of you who do flowers in church, and the other a smaller pedestal in a more modern style.
At the May meeting you will be able to book your place. The cost of the workshop will be £8.50, which includes tea, coffee and biscuits. Following payment a list of the materials needed for the morning will be provided. We are limited to a maximum of 14 places, initially open only to Members, but non-members are very welcome if spaces become available.
The final date for the year, our Christmas Workshop, will be on Wed morning, 9th Dec, also in the Memorial Hall. Details to follow.
