This June saw the Golden Anniversary of the formation of Brampton Flower Club, Cambridgeshire.
Our Open evening was going to be a wonderful celebration of those 50 years with Vanessa Wellock presenting her floral show “Viviene - Love Her or Hate Her!”
Sadly Vanessa had a family emergency just the night before, but fortunately for our club, she kindly organised her friend, the very talented master florist, multiple medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show, demonstrator and author, Julie Pearson, to take her place.
Julie drove to Vanessa’s to pick up the flowers before driving four hours to get to our club so we could still hold this important evening.
A welcoming glass of prosecco and a piece of celebration cake greeted all attendees. Cathy Hudson from “Tom Foolery Jewellery” had a wonderful display of necklaces and earrings to tempt us all and Janet Dobie had her floral sundries and a lovely selection of plants for sale.
Our President Janet Dobie welcomed everybody to our Golden Open Evening explaining the late change of demonstrator before introducing Julie. Like the true professional she is, Julie rose to the challenge and presented “Going for Gold” using Vanessa’s flowers. She filled the stage with some truly beautiful displays whilst keeping us well entertained.
After the vote of thanks, we were delighted to invite our East of England Area Chairman, Gloria Goodley to say a few words. Photos followed with the club’s Committee and Officers joining Gloria and our other special guest Barbara Collins, past Area Chair of the East of England NAFAS.
The 50th cake was then cut by our president Janet Dobie.
To complete the evening, all the beautiful arrangements were raffled and 14 lucky winners went home very happy. A lovely celebration of 50 years enjoyed by over 70 guests and we cannot thank Julie enough for stepping in at the last minute.
We are all thinking about Vanessa and send her our very best wishes.
